Orinda Addition

This beautifully maintained 1940s house was built for our client’s grandmother. Inspired by Cape Cod cottages, the rooms were too small and dark for its current inhabitants—a mid-sixties retired couple with many visiting children and grandchildren.

The solution was to push out the original powder room (built under the main stair) to create a full bath on the main level. We also suggested pushing out the kitchen to create a good-sized family room which includes a built-in couch with a trundle beneath. Opening directly onto the patio, the enlarged kitchen/family room gives the house and its occupants the breathing room they need to all be together comfortably.
