TWObyDESIGN is a small design firm specializing in the entire spectrum of residential design. We have been hired to redesign a front entry, to bring a back stair up to code and make it work for a two year old soccer player as well as an eighty-eight year old gardener. We have designed a new house for a sheepherder, renovated an 1869 farmhouse on a hilltop, designed high end kitchens for nearly professional cooks and reorganized and renovated entire houses in San Francisco and the Bay Area. We currently have under construction a new house, guest house and tower in Sonoma County.
We are deliberately a small firm, two partners with the ability to add such staff as needed when the need arises. Our firm specializes in carefully listening to ALL of the needs of the client and fitting those needs into the overall budgetary, design, and space constraints. We excel at doing realistic analyses of the client's dreams and weighing those against our knowledge of what and how much money it takes actually to get those dreams built. Early in the process we invite information from contractors to keep the expectations in line with reality.
The office doesn't have a "style" but specializes in understanding the hopes and desires of the client. Our focus is on interpreting the historical and local context, on reading the intention of the building and the neighborhood. We always suggest a number of possible approaches to the design challenge from which the client can choose.
Cynthia N. Doubleday, Principal, holds a Master of Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley. She worked in Boston for seven years for James Volney Righter Architects where she designed both for her own clients and for the office residential and commercial projects. After obtaining her Masters Degree, Cynthia worked for Richardson Architects in Sausalito where she again managed her own clients as well as working on office projects and competitions. Cynthia has 20 years' experience, six as principle of her own firm.
Rheanna LaRoche, Associate, has a BA in Architectural Design from the University of Houston. She has fifteen years experience in the field of architecture, working on a wide variety of projects. Her commercial projects range from space planning of an 80,000 sq. ft. office building to design of interior store fixtures, to multi-family, low-income housing complexes. She has enjoyed residential architecture for the past eight years, practicing in the state of Texas and in the Bay Area.
